Welcome to the NJ Arthritis and Osteoporosis
Center, a Adult and Geriatric Rheumatology Medical Practice located at
871 Allwood Road (near the intersection of Clifton Ave) in Clifton, NJ
07012

Director, Michael Lewko, MD is a NJ. Board Certified in the practice of Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Rheumatology located in Clifton, New Jersey.
In addition to providing treatment for Adult Rheumatology , Dr. Michael P. Lewko is a subspecialist in Geriatric Rheumatology (sometimes referred to as Gerontorheumatology) which focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of the many arthritic and rheumatic conditions that attribute to lifestyle changes and functional impairment in the elderly.
Many of these conditions, such as osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, and autoimmune connective tissue disorders
more often require a different treatment approach, and frequently he
coordinates a treatment plan with a patient's other physicians and
health care providers to find the optimal treatment plan to implement
and that will ultimately lead to a higher quality of life and functional
status for the patient.
A Rheumatologist is a physician who has
trained extensively in the diagnosis and treatment of both adult and
geriatrics rheumatic disorders. The training to become a Rheumatologist
involves completion of three years of training in Internal Medicine and
two to three years of further training in Rheumatology.
The identification of several different disorders such as osteoarthritis of knees, hips and other joints, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, myositis, gout, bursitis, tendinitis, back pain, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica and osteoporosis are
among some of the medical conditions we treat. Treatment plans include
education of joint protection and energy conservation techniques, life
style modification, complimentary medicine, physical and occupational
therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, pain medications, disease
modifying medications of which some may be self- injected or infused by
the nurse, and joint aspirations and injections and soft tissue
injections often with the guidance of an ultrasound machine for
needle visualization increasing the accuracy of the treatment of
pain and inflammation..
One of the more common forms of bone disorders is osteoporosis
(thinning of bone tissue and loss of bone density over time as tested
by bone densitometry) which can lead to fractures and dramatic changes
in life style. My goal as a physician treating Osteoporosis is to reduce
or stop bone loss, control pain caused by the disease, use of medicines
to strengthen bones to reduce the risk of fractures. Osteoporosis treatment plans
include lifestyle changes (incorporating exercise as a daily routine
that isn't monotonous but fun) and diet modification in combination with
vitamins and drugs therapy and monitoring of the efficacy and safety of
these drugs to achieve this goal
As a doctor of Geriatric Rheumatology (Gerontorheumatology) Dr. Michael P Lewko's focus
is on the diagnosis and treatment of the many arthritic conditions that
attribute to lifestyle changes in the elderly. Many of these
conditions, such as osteoarthritis and connective tissue disorders
have many different treatment options available, and it is not unusal
to coordinate a treatment plan with a patient's other physicians to
find the correct treatment plan to implement and that will ultimately
lead to a higher quality of life for the patient.
As a doctor, my first goal is to listen to my patient.
